GolfTEC Westport is a modern indoor instruction and custom fitting center located in Westport, Connecticut. I visited the facility to see how its data-rich instruction, motion capture technology, and extensive fitting infrastructure compared to the top-tier club fitting studios in the state. If you’re a golfer who likes to measure improvement in degrees, sways, and spins—or wants to build a swing around biomechanics rather than just feel—this is your kind of place. This is not a casual drop-in range. It’s built for players who want to practice with precision, fit clubs based on measurable feedback, and grind toward lower scores.
Special thanks to Joe O’Toole and Jack McGroarty for providing info and showing me around the facility.
Facility
GolfTEC Westport is built around a few core spaces: 3 high-tech teaching bays, club fitting walls, and a mini build station. Each hitting bay features high-speed cameras and motion sensors, allowing for high-resolution video capture and launch monitor data in real-time. These tools give immediate feedback on ball flight, club path, face angle, and swing speed without the need for on-course trial and error.

On the equipment side, the TECFIT wall is fully stocked with premium clubheads from Mizuno, Ping, Callaway, TaylorMade, and Titleist, all mounted on interchangeable hosel systems that allow instant testing with various shafts. The shaft selection is robust: UST, Project X, Mitsubishi, and Fujikura options dominate the wall, color-coded and sorted by profile.

The putter wall is another standout feature, with a wide lineup of Odyssey, Scotty Cameron, and SuperStroke grips. There’s no long roll-out putting green, but putter fittings are clearly focused on stroke type and head matching. A Mitchell loft/lie machine and regripping tools are on-site, showing they can adjust and rebuild clubs immediately post-fitting.

Services
GolfTEC Westport offers more than just fittings—it provides a complete game improvement ecosystem anchored in technology and data. The instructional platform is built around personalized lesson plans. The core of this system is the proprietary SwingTRU Motion Study, which measures shoulder tilt, hip sway, shoulder bend, and other critical biomechanical markers using high-speed motion sensors.

What sets SwingTRU apart is its basis in empirical swing data from tens of thousands of players, including Tour pros. Golfers are able to track their own movements—like hip sway at impact or shoulder tilt at address—and compare them to benchmarks associated with elite players. Instead of vague coaching advice, players receive defined movement goals (e.g., increase shoulder bend at top from 40° to 50°), and their progress is recorded over time. This allows both the coach and student to build a measurable, repeatable, and Tour-modeled swing progression. Combined with SwingTRU Motion Study, launch monitor feedback, and side-by-side video playback to build and refine your swing over time. Coaches are certified GolfTEC professionals trained to deliver biomechanical insight rather than quick-fix tips.
In addition to swing instruction, GolfTEC provides:
- Custom Club Fitting: Full bag, iron-only, driver-only, and putter fittings with premium shaft and head options.
- Loft & Lie Adjustments: Performed in-house with a Mitchell digital machine.
- Regripping & Basic Repairs: On-site options for grip replacement, reshafting, or minor club adjustments.
- Practice Sessions: Clients with active lesson plans or packages can schedule private practice bay sessions to reinforce technical work.
GolfTEC also stores and tracks swing data for all students, allowing for long-term trend analysis and coaching continuity. The ability to revisit historical swings or compare lesson-to-lesson data is a huge asset for detail-oriented players.
Pricing
GolfTEC Westport offers a structured pricing model for both lessons and fittings — as of July 2025, a swing analysis was $95. GolfTEC also provides club builds across a full range of price tiers:
- Entry-Level Builds: OEM heads with standard steel shafts and grips. Expect $1,000–$1,200 for a 7-club iron set.
- Mid-Tier Builds: Forged heads (e.g., Mizuno Pro, Ping i230) with upgraded shafts like Project X or Nippon Modus. Price range: $1,600–$2,200.
- Premium Builds: High-end boutique heads (e.g., Miura, PXG) with exotic graphite shafts (e.g., Ventus, Tour AD, Autoflex) and SST PUREing. These setups often run $3,000–$4,000+.
Builds can be customized on the spot after fittings, and grip, shaft, and head options are all available for live testing. As with most places in Connecticut, GolfTEC frequently runs promotions that waive fitting fees with qualifying club purchases.
Final Word
If you’re serious about improvement and want to know exactly what your swing and equipment are doing, GolfTEC Westport offers one of the most advanced motion capture and fitting setups in Connecticut. I loved how streamlined the process was: motion data, video, launch monitor numbers, and clubhead swaps all done within one focused bay. It’s a true lab experience. The fitting matrix covers nearly every major OEM, and the instruction is based on biomechanics and sequencing rather than surface-level quick fixes.
What stands out most is GolfTEC’s use of its proprietary SwingTRU Motion Study system instead of a TrackMan launch monitor setup like the one used at Club Champion Westport. While both systems deliver high-level data, SwingTRU places more emphasis on biomechanical benchmarks and positional feedback, rather than ball flight alone. It’s a different approach—and one that some players may find more actionable. That said, unlike Club Champion, GolfTEC does not use video analysis tools to test lie angle or stroke fit for zero-offset or lie-neutral putters like LAB Golf. If you’re hoping for a SAM PuttLab-style session with slow-mo capture, you won’t find it here.
As with most golf fitting places in Connecticut, this level of care isn’t cheap. But if you’re ready to diagnose swing inefficiencies, build a smarter bag, and take your practice up a level, this is a facility worth booking time at.
